About Us
Where Everyone Is Family?
God put in each of our hearts a desire to belong. When we are born into God’s family we become His child…and brothers and sisters in Christ. Cherry Street Baptist is a church family where you can find encouragement, compassion, and acceptance…a place to belong for real people just like you. At CSBC, we see the transforming power of the Gospel change lives, repair broken families, and bring the joy of Christ to those in difficult circumstances. There’s a place for you in the family of God. He loves you, and we do too! There’s a place for you at Cherry Street Baptist Church…where everyone is family!
Our Purpose
Cherry Street Baptist Church has a rich and blessed heritage. But we are also engaged in preparing for a bright future. Every church should have a purpose related to the instructions of Christ because of the reasons laid out in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) First of all, to REACH the lost. It is our responsibility as a church and it’s members to present the gospel to everyone we meet in a clear way. Second, to TEACH or disciple those that desire a deeper relationship with Christ. Our primary source of discipleship is our Sunday School. And third, to MINISTER. The result of discipleship is service. As a Christian matures in their relationship with Christ, service in ministry becomes a part of their life. The purpose of our church can be summed up in three words: REACH, TEACH, and MINISTER. The simple formula laid out in Matthew 28:19-20 is what continually brings new people in, develops disciples, and promotes service not only in our church, but around the world.

Our History
Under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth E. Gillming, Cherry Street Baptist Church began in 1959 with 12 charter members. Property was purchased at 2434 E. Cherry Street and the first building was occupied on Easter Sunday, 1961. Dr. Gillming was the senior pastor of CSBC until 2002 (except 1972-1975, when Harold Brown served as pastor). In 1993 the church moved to its current location at 1201 S. Oak Grove. In 2002, Kenneth D. Gillming (Dr. Gillming’s son) served as pastor. Under his leadership, the Family Center (now known as the Gillming Center) was constructed. In 2008, Dennis Jennings accepted the call to serve as senior pastor. Today, Cherry Street Baptist Church continues to focus on reaching people for Christ; making disciples through the life-changing truth of God’s Word; and equipping believers to serve Christ by serving others in and through our local church. Today, because of His grace, souls are being saved and lives are being changed through vibrant outreach ministries in our community and missionary endeavors around the world.
